FAQ:
Which campus(es) will you be focusing on?
There are five campuses in particular where we have been focusing our prayers – in alphabetical order: Boston College; Boston University; Harvard; MIT and Northeastern. However, as of now, we do not know where the LORD will lead us. Please pray with us for open doors to all the campuses in the Boston area!
Why plant a church at all? Why not go and work with an existing church?
We are thankful for the churches and para-church ministries who are ministering already to Boston students. We love the local church and believe strongly that the local church is God’s chosen instrument to advance His Kingdom. We are not going to plant a church because we think we can do a better job. We are going quite simply because we feel called to plant a church which serves college students. From a practical standpoint, there is no one church that can minister to the vast number of college students in Boston. There needs to be different churches to minister and reach different folks. On our end, we want to build a truly multi-ethnic, evangelical, charismatic community of believers to serve the college students in Boston.
Tim Keller has an excellent response to this question on his website. Please consider listening to his answer here.
When will you be going?
We will be moving up to Boston this summer (2010) and are hoping to officially launch the church in the Fall (2010).
How can I help?
Great question! Click here for more details
- We are in great need of prayer support. If you would like to receive a monthly letter from Pastor Barry with updates on the church plant and prayer requests, please email him at pastorbarrykang@gmail.com.
- We are also in need of financial support. The Harvest Campaign is GCC’s fund raising campaign to raise $100,000.00 to support the operations of the first three years of the Boston church plant.
- We are also in need of workers! If you are interested in being part of this church plant, please talk with Pastor Barry or another GCC staff member as soon as possible. We would also love to be able minister to your friends and relatives who will be moving up to the Boston area this fall. If you know of friends (incoming freshmen, grad students and young adults) who are moving into the Boston area, please let one of the GCC staff members know. Please don’t ask your friends who are already plugged into another church! We want them to stay happily at their own churches!
