Chinese.

Peru has known a long history of repressive dictatorships
and military rule. Most recently Peru had 15 yrs of guerilla
warfare in which 30,000 people died through terrorists or
military reactions. Fujimori was elected as president in 1990
and largely brought an end to the violence but right after
election into his 3rd term, his administration was brought
down by corruption scandals.
Peru now is trying to build a stable democracy and salvage
an economy ravaged by warfare, El Niño, among many
things. About 40% of Peru’s people live in extreme poverty.
Lima is the fifth largest city in Latin America and over 60%
of inhabitants live in slums. The Amerindian tribes of the
mountains and lowland areas have a strong tradition of superstition
and virtually no churches.
This is the fifth year Grace Covenant Church will send a missions
team to Peru. The team wil serve in a variety of different
ministries from the city of Lima and the tribal villages in
the Amazon jungle to the Inca-influenced tribes in the Andes.
Please pray for the mission trip as GCC combines with Harvest
Mission Community Church in Michigan to go to Peru from June
20th to August 1st.
Please
pray for the following concerns for the Peru mission team:
- Unity:
Pray for healthy accountability and fellowship; relationships
among team members, and humble attitudes
-
Growth: Pray
for a growing love for God and concern for His kingdom
and the people of Peru, richer study of Scripture, and
a deeper prayer life, physical health, and emotional stability.
-
Faith:
The team has been training for the past few months to
prepare for the spiritual battle ahead of them. Pray as
they continue to train spiritually, mentally and physically
for this summer, God would be their strength and focus.
